About the Client
The Royal New Zealand Returned and Services Association (RSA) is New Zealand’s largest veterans’ support organisation, one of the largest voluntary support organisations in the country. Formed in 1916 by returning soldiers, ANZACs in World War I, it provides support and comfort to current and veteran NZ Defence Force personnel and their families. It helps in all areas of life including medical care, companion dogs, school fees, and emotional support and counselling. The organisation is made up of 182 local RSAs around the country, each an entity in its own right, with over 102,000 members.
Brief
Juggling outdated narratives, a legacy of memberships and clubs, and a misrepresentation of membership demographics, the RSA was seeking a fresh take to an old story. The brief was to create a website that was responsive, easily navigable, and bring a fresh look to appeal to diverse audiences. The site also needed to include a News and an Events section.
Solution
Working alongside a team of web developers, and drawing on existing user research, wireframes and content structures, I developed concepts for the main content pages at web, tablet, and mobile sizes, using the core elements from the RSA brand guidelines paired with new web accessible typefaces.
The resulting website cultivates new and existing connections, giving care and consideration to each engagement. With clearer touch points, current military personnel and veterans can now see the full suite of support available to them. The restructured content and new design elements have given the RSA a stronger digital presence to better tell its honourable story.
